The Westbridge
74-76 Battersea Bridge Road
SW11 3AG

Date of Last Visit: Monday, March 2nd, 2009

The Victims: Many

The Damage: Free. This was a freebie.

The Background: After our tour of Sambrook's, we head over to The Westbridge for pints of prawns and platters of oysters. Oh yes, and six different beers. (1/3 pours. Don't panic. It's only Monday after all.)

The Food: My photos of the prawns didn't pan out so well. But they oysters look luscious, don't they? I ate a lot of oysters that night. And Lizzie, Niamh and I cleaned up all the prawns that went uneaten as well.

The Beers: Adnams Best Bitter, Porterhouse Red, Thwaite's Nutty Black (my favorite), Oyster Stout (I took off after this one), Draft Guinness and a choice of either Sleemans I.P.A, Maredsous, or Duvel Green.

Funny: He-Man Wallpaper on the way down to the loos.

The Verdict: We thought the prawns were really fresh (smallish though, but you did get a very generous pint of them) and we loved the oysters. I also liked the big table we sat at at the back of the pub. If I were in the area again, I'd go back here.

The post The Westbridge first appeared on Passport Delicious | Solo Travel Blog | Solo Female Travel.

85 Albert Bridge Road, London
SW11 4PF
Tel: 020 7228 0923

Date of Last Visit: Sunday, May 15

The Victims: Oh my, let’s see. Jill, Becky, Kellie, Julie, Lee, Anna, Jen, Ali, and some others I didn’t know

It was Book Club. And I was supposed to be organizing. We were meeting over at the Prince Albert by Battersea Park at 2 on a Sunday. I thought I might walk, so I left my place at 12:30. 2 pm and I was still walking. Battersea Power Station is very large.

So I arrived at the Prince Albert at 2:25 and the discussion about The Time Traveler’s Wife was well underway. I ordered a greek salad and a beer, but was admittedly a bit unfresh after walking for so long on such an (English) hot day, so I had to send someone else in to do my ordering.

I thought my greek salad was okay. The olives were pitty and not marinated enough. There wasn’t enough vinagrette on the salad. But the lettuce was fresh and crisp, more than can be said of most places. And the cutest part was that when you place your orders, they give you these little yellow cups with a number on them so they know where you’re sitting. I don’t know. I thought that was a nice touch.

I asked around and everyone seemed to think their food was okay. So that’s good. But I was there SO VERY briefly–from 2:25 to 3, that I feel that the Prince Albert deserves another visit.

The Verdict: Well, it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so sitting outside was perfect. BUT I never went inside or saw anything of the pub or tried anyone else’s food so the verdict is still out, and well, my salad was only just average.

The post Pub Food: The Prince Albert first appeared on Passport Delicious | Solo Travel Blog | Solo Female Travel.
