Sounds like the evening food you had is much better than the breakfast - everything on the breakfast menu sounded great but we were disappointed with what arrived. Great surroundings though, shall have to go back at night.

So, as one who is interested in botany, was there anything about the place that was "botanical"? Nice flower arrangements? A Victorian fernery?

I'm guessing they're just referring to Hans Sloane, the botanist who first brought chocolate to Europe (let's hear it for Hans!), but with that name I expect nice plants.

It is very much a 'Sloane manger', as John Walsh put it. We got similar treatment from some rowdy bankers when we went to review recently, proving that money doesn't buy manners.

I thought the food was good - the bacon cream that came with the halibut was delicious. Far too loud, though I can't see them investing in anything as sensible as tablecloths.

I'd like to go back for breakfast - the menu looks great.

Great review. I can see from your photo that it had been raining, but on a sunny day there are huge crowds of drinkers standing out front clearly having a very glamourous time. I don't know how long it has been open but it seems to be the place to be at the moment. The patrons always look like they're having a much better time than the people in Oriel just across the road.
