I so wish someone would take me to Foliage. If only I had a time machine I could go back a few months, kidnap Douglas so he couldn't write his superlative entry, come up with something fantabulous myself and scoop the prize (evil laugh to oneself...)

Sounds every bit as good as the meal I had - especially those big fat scallops which look like they have a really great crust on them.

I will have to pay a return visit one of these days.

Lizzie - it means you:
(1) dip the spoon in the soup bowl in the end closer to you
(2) drag the spoon away from you to the opposite end
(3) lift the spoon, filled with soup, off the end of the bowl furthest away from you
(4) Eat!

Thats the "proper" way of eating your soup. Sans any loud slurping noises, of course.

Sounds like a wonderful evening - and a great prize! It so annoying how hotel restaurants are always so hotel restaurant-y in their decor and ambience. We've 'done' them for the last 2 birthdays - 108 (in Marylebone) and Rhodes at the Cumberland - and the ambience really killed it. (PS Neither are beige! I think its the chairs).

Sounds like a fabulous meal. What do you mean by "...ate the soup away from him"? I can't quite picture how that's done. Obviously I'm rather ill-mannered!
