Follow the link to Amazon. Yes, you can use it with a plug adaptor, no problem. I would not run a hairdryer through it though. This is more for when you have an iPad, iPhone, Blackberry, and camera charger and only one outlet by the bed.

I was researching United’s Club Card and ran across your article! Refreshingly down to earth and packed full of common sense. Can you share the brand name of the extension cord? Assume it works with power conversion adaptors?

Also try Covonia Night Time Remedy in the UK. It’s a cough syrup, but if you’re awake 10 mins after taking a tablespoon, I’ll be shocked!

Ooh thanks Krista! I have always felt a bit funny about taking brain-affecting drugs when I don’t have much wrong with me (though a bit inconsistently I don’t have such a problem with taking alcohol!) I have a few Economy trips to Asia/Australia coming up, so I think I’ll give drugs a try.

Great post and very realistic as well. I do London – NY many times throughout the year and I agree with them all. I also always carry a waterbottle with me so I can fill it up for the flight. It will with the puffiness you get from lack of (enough) water on long flights.

I also have the AMEX Starwoods card and it is AMAZING! We have a 14 night trip coming up soon and we used points for every night.

Yeah, that NYT article bugged me as well, for the same reasons. I hope I never travel next to folks taking the advice of that article.

Re: the checked bag thing: I agree, despite all the crap I get from my coworkers for doing so. I don’t want to be “that guy” that’s always jamming and cramming the “honest, this excuse for a steamer trunk always fits in these overhead bins,just wait five minutes while I keep trying to slam the door on it.”. Doubly so on international flights, where it’s likely that your bags will be on the carousel long before you clear the passport queue.

I’ll have to check out that power strip… I’m always busting out an outlet splitter at airports, so I can actually share that one outlet by the gate with other people. I’m shocked how many people look at it like it’s some sort of magical device that they’ve never seen before (“If only someone could make a magical device that splits one outlet into three… Oh, wait!”)

Very good advice, thanks Krista. Can you recommend any drowsy drugs for those of us based in the UK, where I don’t believe you can get Tylenol easily?
