Great list here! I wish I would have found this at the time I moved to London and started dating. I was pretty much choosing the worst possible venue. Keep up the good work =P

Can't believe I've only just come across your post!
Some really great suggestions here. I LOVE Andrew Edmunds and am going to Bleeding Heart next week... For me, a walk through one of London's parks (whatever time of the year) followed by some drinks is my idea of heaven!

Take a look at our website which is 100% dedicated to where to go on a date in London: www.thegreatdateguide.com

I agree with Sasha on Vinoteca and I also second Polpetto. I think the setting in the ground floor room of Andrew Edmunds is great (v romantic) but downstairs feels a bit gloomy to me and I think the food is overrated. I would prefer some nice cheese and wine across the road at Fernandez & Wells. Barrica would also be a good, buzzy setting for some Spanish wine and tapas, although I recall you didn't have the best experience there!

Ooh I'm DYING to try Andrew Edmunds too - had a friend go on a date there and also said very romantique.

I'm British so first dates have to involve alcohol or is too awkward. I'd say Vinoteca would be a great place because the wine is so good, and this will tend to smooth over any obvious cracks. Sundays would be perfect - a walk in Brockwell or Richmond Park or round Greenwich conservatory followed by a huge roast and a bottle of red would work.

Or after work see a play at the Barbican or Soho Theatre followed by dinner and drinks in Clerkenwell or Soho. I love Polpetto too, nice and dark and as you say, candlelit.

GREAT POST! Sasha x
