New Yorker, we did have dinner at The Garrison. It was good. But they never
asked me how I wanted my venison cooked and it arrived closer to
medium-well. It would have been so much nicer if pinker.

Gourmet Chick…it was just all of them there on the menu at £6.50 that did
it for me. What have we become??? How much does flour, butter, and sugar
really cost?

Our desserts (or puddings, if you like) are currently £3.50. We’re doing a red fruit and apple crumble and a creamy chocolate mousse. The portions aren’t massive, but I think it’s better that way. I’ve given up doing cheese plates because there’s no bloody money in it.

Same as what Gourmet chick said… I’m so used to paying £10 or more for desserts that £6.50 for a brownie and ice cream almost seems like a bargain…

I think I am obviously warped by London living – I wouldn’t balk at that price on a menu but now that you say it I suppose it is a lot. Better get out the brownie recipe and make my own

Well, the Garrison overall isn’t on the cheap side, so the dessert prices seem in line. Their sticky toffee pudding is huge and delicious. (I’ve never had a brownie in Britain that was worth any price.) Did you eat dinner at the Garrison as well? I’ve never been disappointed there.

Bermondsey Street is a pretty hip area, everything around there is expensive.

Well, you know Bermondsey Street does fancy itself as one of London’s hippest, up and coming places. Even though half of it is estate agents! I live on the next street over and I’ve experienced every rip off merchant there. So £6.50 for a dessert means you’re really paying for the privilege of eating surrounded by the ‘coolest’ cats. You should try brunch at the Village if you feel like being ripped off and stared down by the belligerent, too cool for school, waiters.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding may be worth it. All the non-Brits we take there rave about it. I do not understand the brownie, though, perhaps it’s a novelty item on a pub menu?
