The Hawksmoor Burger

Hawksmoor burger

Hawksmoor
157 Commercial Street
E1 6BJ

Date of Last Visit: Monday, December 14th, 2009

The Victims: Stacey, Feathers, Jen

The Damage: About £18 each. We each had a burger. And we split some creamed spinach. Some people had Cokes. I stuck with water.

The Background: In many ways, this is a lazy post. See, I haven't done anything with my blog since December 22nd. That's a whole 12 days without bloging. You know that doesn't happen here very often. But I needed a break over the holidays, and on this, my last day of vacation, I don't really feel like blogging up a storm.

This is also quite a lazy post because if you really want to know about the Hawksmoor burger, you can just read Dan's post. Really, there's not much more for me to say…

Except…
1. Stacey has left us. She and Canadia Boy now reside in Washington D.C. This makes me sad because besides for being fabulous company, Stace and CB fed me many a weekend. I will miss their guacamole.
2. The Hawksmoor burger was Stacey's last London meal request. And it is a very fine burger; I can see why she requested it. Might have been better with American cheese though. Sorry, I do have a fondness for that orange stuff.
3. The Hawksmoor burger costs £15. Ouch.
4. They forgot to bring our creamed spinach. (I always get nervous when waitstaff don't write anything down. More than 50% of the time, I am right to be nervous.)
5. I am sad I never did the burger during that period when Hawksmoor was offering special deals to bloggers. Why have I waited this long?

The Verdict: If you are not American, you should go to Hawksmoor and have the burger. If you are American, you should give the burger a shot, but you might find that you have had burgers of equal or greater quality in the U.S. There's nothing wrong with that. Personally, I think it's the cheese. Give me my Kraft singles!

I’m not american and I will give it a try soon!

I’m a sucker for orange cheese. I haven’t had one yet but I am still trying to rustle up the courage on spending £15 on a burger.

Couple of things – you didn’t miss much regarding the ‘creamed’ spinach. Last time I had it it was all kinds of wrong, but I believe it was a genuine mistake so maybe it’s not so bad normally.

Also I could be wrong, but I don’t think they ever offered special deals for bloggers on the burger. I know me and Food Stories paid for ours anyway 🙂 Can’t speak for anyone else.

Oh and I’m sure you mean £15 not $15. $15 wouldn’t be so bad!

Just checked my archives…they definitely offered me 50% any visit in March of last year, as long as I booked through one specific person.

I did gloss over the creamed spinach. It was okay, but not as good as my mom's. Or Stouffer's for that matter!

£/$…thanks!

I took the afternoon off work to go to Hawksmoor to try their burger and by the time I’d got there they’d run out and I had to have a steak instead. No real hardship, but I blame Essex Eating!

Oh Lizzie, that's awful! Did you have the rump steak instead?

I am constantly on the hunt for the best burger in London, in fact its my NY resolution. I agree with you that its all about the cheese – I too have a strange fondness for Kraft slices or good old cheddar. Off to the US in June so will need to try burgers there too – nom nom.

I will definitely have to try the Hawksmoor. And actually I found that Grand Union does a pretty good burger too, good cheese, although VERY messy…

I got to try Five Guys when I was home for Christmas. It’s my new favourite American burger. Haven’t tried the Hawksmoor yet, and it’s definitely on my list, but mmmm Five Guys…

Put it on your list for next time if you haven’t gone there already.

I can say as the first blogger to blog the Hawksmoor burger (ha ha!) that I had 50% off…

Strange, I could have sworn I was the first:-)

In any case, I paid full whack although I think they did begin to offer a discount to bloggers

I know – gutted! I went for a rib eye. As good as ever.

Lucky 7 has the best burger in London, I’d say. It has the Kraft slice!
