February Blog Report

by Krista

Traffic_febI was a little worried that February would be a pretty lack-luster month for Londonelicious–I didn’t post Monday through Friday each and every week–but my fears were unfounded! I set another new record according to Sitemeter. Although page impressions didn’t reach January’s high, the number of visitors was 1.6% higher…and that’s with two fewer days than we had in January.

In February, if you haven’t noticed, I rolled out a new banner and background. Many thanks to designer Nicole for her able assitance and responsiveness. Please pop over and take a look at her work!

If you’re curious, my top five referring sites (not including search engines) this month were…
An American in London, a great restaurant blog from a fellow American who also seems to share my stomping ground
Mmm-Yoso, who I visited when I was pondering some international travels late last year
Cheese & Biscuits by fellow Londoner, Chris
Food & Drink in London, by Howard & Ben
London a la Mode, a great London shopping and dining blog by another American in London

Small conflict of interest in that I was contacted about a commercial opportunity on the blog…if you’ve read my About page, I mention that I don’t accept ads or sponsorships. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and it’s likely that that policy will change at some point. Firstly, I’d like to cover the costs of my Typepad Pro account. Secondly, I’ve got my eye on this purse… 🙂

In all seriousness, I doubt a couple of ads are going to take me to Prada overnight. I think it makes sense to experiment. We’ll see what happens. Don’t worry…it will be very transparent.

What else can I tell you? I’ve got some content ideas that could be fun. And I’ve got a lot of to-dos. I still need to categorize posts from 2004. And then there’s that Google map that I’ve been totally avoiding. And I’d like to see visitors increase more than 5% this month. My digital camera is on its last legs…next time around, I’m getting a case too. But I just upgraded my phone to a 3.2 Megapixel cameraphone, so I’ve got a good back-up. And that’s it!

Thanks for the mention, Krista – I had no idea my contribution to your visitor numbers was so significant!

I have also been thinking about adding Google Map information to my posts, so let me know how that goes (and where to go to learn how to do it!).

I always read your new posts on my blackberry so today’s the first day I’ve seen the new banner and background which look great! Well done on the numbers – and your transparency too.

Chris…data is fun, isn’t it? I wish I could take a peak under the hood of all the blogs like ours out there!

Top Bird…your blog is great. I read it all the time. LOVE Shelf on Cheshire Street.

Sarah…thanks! Transparency…wonder where I get that from, huh? 🙂

Hi Krista – Thanks for the link! You have a fun and interesting blog, and I’m glad that readers are finding it.

Don’t worry about making money from the blog – as long as you’re upfront about it, no-one minds. I’ve taken ads on mine for a year now, and it hasn’t caused problems.

People get far too hung up about ads on blogs. As long as you’re open and honest about what you get paid for and what you don’t (i.e. ads are well sign-posted) it doesn’t dilute what you’re writing.

Also, I realise I owe you an apology – I’d thought I had a link to you on my site, just realised I don’t. Can’t say it will improve your impressive stats much though 😉
