Best Mobile Phone for Blogging?

by Krista

I am in search of the best mobile phone for mobile blogging. I have a Sony Ericsson 960 cell phone. It’s great because it has a 3.2 megapixel camera phone. But I find the interface clunky in general, and particularly clunky for blogging my little London restaurant guide. (Although the size of the screen is very nice.) Am I an idiot not to have an iPhone?

Here’s what I want to be able to do…

  • Take food and restaurant photos and post them directly to Typepad but without a whole lot of hassle. Does anyone know if you can post photos to Typepad as a draft post? Or do they have to go live instantaneously? Related, it would be nice if Typepad accepted incoming photos and posts from multiple email addresses. I use Gmail as my Typepad account, but how can I take a photo and then easily send it from Gmail? Same with writing a post and sending it easily to Typepad without necessarily having to log into Gmail and all that. Maybe I just need to RTFM. (Read-the-F***ing-Manual.)
  • Launch Google without a whole lot of steps. The default Home on Sony seems to be Vodafone Live which is annoying.
  • Write whole restaurant reviews without getting hand-cramp. Also, the auto-word feature on the Sony takes some getting used to.
  • I want GPS.
  • I want a camera with at least 3.2 mega pixels

What do you think? Have you found the perfect phone for mobile blogging? If so, what is it? Or do you have the Sony Ericsson 960 phone and are you using it successfully for mobile blogging?  What am I missing? Should I switch to a phone that has Windows Mobile or the Palm OS? Should I just get an iPhone?

You know what would be cool? If a mobile phone company saw my post and sent me their newest phones to try out as blogging phones. A gal can hope!

Do you have a blackberry? It’s functionality is pretty good. Although not sure about the photo.

What about the N95, supposed to be pretty hot.

Then again as you say, there’s the iPhone which seems to be the dogs doo-doos, but is expensive and have heard bad things about the camera.

As for how to manage the issue you’re discussing with the photos, why not set up a flickr account and then send them there? Then you can edit them as you choose.

Finally, if you’re really into mobile blogging, I’ve got into twitter recently and am loving it. I’m also trying to get more food bloggers on it, as it’s currently colonised by wine bloggers.

The one thing that aggravates me about posting from gmail is that you can’t set categories, so have to do that when you get home.

Hi Krista,

Good to see you again (if briefly) at St John. I hadn’t actually seen your blog before but just stumbled upon it now on a search of Korean restaurants in London. Nice job, it looks great.

Particular congrats re. your music tips which are scarily in tune with me. Sufjan, Stars, HBMS, Andrew Bird and Squirrel Nut Zippers (I can’t believe there other Zippers fans out there…). We’ll disagree re. David Kitt, The National and Joanna “Chipmunk on Helium” Newsom but Bravo!

Hmm, surely there must be a gentleman out there who can answer this question…

I love my blackberry curve although the camera is only 2.0. Its easy for writing wordy pieces and its not bad for getting to Google. I have not yet dared to attempt mobile blogging though!:o)

A blackberry shall function perfectly all right for your requirements or needs mentioned above, i guess

Thanks all for all the tips!

Silverbrow, I keep trying Twitter out (I’m there under kristainlondon) but I don’t get it. Give me an example of an exciting time where you’ve used it.

Sarah and Faheem…yeah, I do like Blackberries, but I really want a decent camera…so it’s sounding like I was sorta on track…it’s either the iPhone or the N95?
