Sushi at harrods
Harrods Sushi Bar
87 – 135 Brompton Road,
SW1X 7XL

Date of Last Visit: Sunday, May 2, 2010

The Damage: £15ish

Sushi two days in a row. Do you think I like sushi? My birthday was a few days prior to this, and as a birthday treat, I had booked myself into the Mandarin Oriental Spa. (Which is highly lovely, by the way. I very highly recommend it.) I had some time to kill before my appointment, so I popped into Harrods for some retail therapy and some sushi.

And I was very disappointed. It was the rice. There was something wrong with the rice. It ruined everything. Dry. Lumpy. Overly sticky. Sigh. Is it really so hard?

The Verdict: No.

Shame! I’ve had sushi at the Harrod’s sushi bar once and it was really good! Super fresh and the sashimi was sweet and just delicious. Hmmm maybe that was it, I don’t think I had anything with rice! Anyway, shame you had a bad time :(

That is a shame. I hate it when they mess up the rice, it seems like the easiest bit of the whole thing and it is surprisingly important for the end result. I hope your next sushi experience is better.

  3. The last time I ate at Harrod’s was when I first came to London as a tourist. That about sums up why I’d expect the ready-to-eat food options there to be expensive and mediocre, much as I still love their cheese counter. Lol. Too bad Bar Boulud hadn’t opened yet when it was your birthday . . . would’ve been a better option for location (across the hall from the spa entrance) and quality.

I’ve had that issue with the rice before. Much too thick and sat horribly on my stomach!! Made me nauseous. I was in Paris when that happened. I was so disappointed. I’ve just found your blog and I love it!

Disappointing! Happy birthday – will have to have a celebratory champagne when we next catch up…

I had a similarly disappointing experience yesterday at Hi Suhi in Hampstead. The sushi/ maki did not look nice at all and the rice… much to hard and dry.
Shame!! They should not be allowed to destroy our sushi!

I've been to that place. It was so average, I didn't even bother writing it up!
