Date of Last Visit: Sunday, October 28th

The Victm: Me

The Damage: £8?

Tap Water Test: Passed.

The Background: I really should start cooking more. Because this is what happens to m e every Sunday without fail. I wake up. I am hungry. I don’t feel like Cheerios. So I wander the streets. (Maybe with a little Internet-wandering first.) If I’m lucky, I find someplace new and great. If I’m unlucky…well, keep reading.

So the other Sunday, I ended up at Say Pasta on Upper Street. I had wandered by the other day when I had checked out the Europhorium Bakery. Say looked fun. Cheerful. Through the windows, I saw a big chalkboard with all sorts of specials on it. It also looked inexpensive. This is not a bad thing.

So I wandered in and a friendly staff member gave me his newspaper (The Sun. Good times.) and I took a seat. The menu is divided by sauce-base. I selected this one for my main:

Penne Chicken £7.45
sautéed chicken, proscuitto, almonds, asparagus & mascarpone
cheese bound in a cream sauce with a splash of balsamic vinegar.

I don’t know–it seemed like a whole lot of cream to me. A little bit of chicken. And a handful of almonds. (Which I did like by the way–the almonds were a nice touch.) Other than that, everything else seemed to be curiously missing. There were a few small pieces of asparagus, maybe.

All that cream, and no bread to sop it up with. Well, they had bread, but check this out. Yeah, I don’t think so. £3.50 for bread? I bought a whole loaf of special non-white bread at Europhium for £1.90.

Garlic bread £1.75
Bread board. A selection of mixed breads. £3.50
Bread and Olives £3.95

Bread should be free. Except in Germany, where I expect them to charge 20p a slice for it.

The Verdict: Friendly service. But otherwise, eh.
