The inaugural bookclub. We’re reading The Other Boelyn Girl, by Phillipa Gregory. Not a boddice ripper, but not pure history either. We need a place to go that’s old and English, preferably in der Naehe of Tower Bridge. There are 14 of us. I am worried that it will be only 59 in my temperatures, but we do the George Inn anyhow. It’s perfect because it’s a warm 59 and there is a courtyard and tables and we can take three of them and move them into the sun.

It is also perfect because you just order your food at the window inside and then they bring it to you. I like that no-frills approach. It works. I got the Fish and Chips, Atkins be damned. It was delicious and I would do it again. Now, I do question whether they actually made the fish and chips there or just deep-fried some frozen stuff, but it was CHEAP and as such, a God-send for this country.

The waiter at the bar was cute and flirted with me. I did not deserve it because I was trying to get rid of my "Stevenson 5," aka old British money that is not accepted here anymore.

Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. It didn’t pretend to me more than it was…cheap, decent pub grub. Good stuff. And love the courtyard.

The Verdict: Would go back for a relaxing Saturday/Sunday at the pub and some more fish and chips.
